About the project:

XShinobi is a Twitter game extension that turns your daily doomscrolling into something surprisingly fun. While you browse your feed, your ninja pet lives right alongside you — growing, evolving, and going on missions directly in the interface. Open treasure chests, complete quests on your newsfeed, and level up your character without ever leaving Twitter. It's the kind of product that makes you look at your social media habit a little differently.

XShinobi Mockup

Objectives:

  • Build a browser extension that layers a fully functioning game experience on top of Twitter's existing interface — without breaking anything, feeling intrusive, or triggering platform restrictions
  • Create a compelling virtual pet system with real progression, meaningful evolution stages, and distinct skills that made players genuinely invested in their characters over time
  • Bring the ninja world to life through hand-drawn art that looked beautiful even at small extension sizes, with animations that ran smoothly inside a live social media feed

Our approach:

  • We reverse engineered a technology that had been on the market for barely two months — there was no playbook, no documentation, no one to ask. We figured it out ourselves in about two months of intense research, experimentation, and building
  • Getting a game to run cleanly inside Twitter's DOM was a genuinely hard engineering problem. Every animation, every interaction, every game mechanic had to coexist peacefully with Twitter's own frontend without conflicts or performance issues
  • The art system was built with real care: a fully hand-drawn character roster with 3 distinct evolution stages, each with its own animations and unique skills — all crafted to feel alive even when displayed at small sizes within a social media layout

Results:

  • A fully functioning Twitter game extension that players adopted quickly because the novelty was real, the gameplay was fun, and the pet system gave them something worth coming back for
  • A hand-drawn character system with 3 evolution stages that gave players a genuine sense of progression and real attachment to their ninja companions
  • Another reverse-engineering win that proved the team can figure out brand-new technology fast when we need to — and have a good time doing it
