About the project:
KIN is a smart health ring that sits quietly on your finger and tells you everything your body has been trying to say. Sleep, stress, heart rate, recovery — it tracks it all and turns those signals into something you can actually use: points, rewards, and the gentle nudge to live a little better. No subscription. No gatekeeping. Just one of the most affordable smart rings on the market, built for real people.
Objectives:
- Build a companion app that makes sense of complex health data — sleep stages, HRV, readiness scores — and presents it in a way that feels human, not clinical
- Design a rewards system that actually motivates: earn points for wearing your ring, hitting streaks, and checking in on your mood
- Make advanced wearable tech feel accessible and approachable for everyday users who just want to feel better
Our approach:
- This was our first time working with hardware from a China manufacturer, and honestly — it was a wild ride at first. Figuring out how to get the ring's sensors talking to our app correctly took a lot of back-and-forth, debugging sessions, and moments of "wait, that actually worked?"
- We spent serious time on data visualization — because nobody wants to squint at raw numbers at 7am. Every metric got a design treatment that made it feel clear, motivating, and even a little beautiful
- The onboarding and pairing flow went through round after round of testing to make sure first-time users felt guided, not frustrated
Results:
- A health companion app that genuinely feels like it's on your side — warm, clear, and rewarding to use every single day
- A hardware-software integration that works reliably, even after all the early chaos it took to get there
