About the project:
Firefli is redefining what it means to own a GPU. Instead of letting that hardware sit idle, Firefli turns it into a revenue stream — a decentralized marketplace where anyone can rent out their spare GPU capacity to power AI training, visual computing, and machine learning workloads for others. On the other side, AI teams and developers access affordable, distributed compute without the eye-watering costs of centralized cloud providers. Everyone wins.
Objectives:
- Build a two-sided marketplace where GPU owners can list their hardware and earn passively, while AI developers and researchers can access decentralized compute at a fraction of cloud pricing
- Design a transparent, trustless rent-to-earn system where pricing, availability, and payouts are clear and reliable for both hosts and renters
- Make the onboarding experience simple enough that non-technical GPU owners could get set up and start earning without needing to understand what's happening under the hood
Our approach:
- The two-sided marketplace dynamic was the core design challenge — we had to make the platform compelling enough to attract hosts before renters arrived, and useful enough for renters before the host supply was deep. Getting that chicken-and-egg balance right drove a lot of our early product thinking
- The technical architecture had to handle real-time GPU availability tracking, workload scheduling, and payout calculation across a distributed network of hardware — none of which comes with an off-the-shelf solution. We built the orchestration layer from the ground up
- On the UX side, we worked hard to abstract the complexity. A GPU host shouldn't need to understand distributed compute to participate — they just needed to see their earnings grow and trust that their hardware was being used responsibly
Results:
- A live decentralized GPU marketplace where hosts earn from idle hardware and AI teams access affordable compute — exactly the redistribution of resources Firefli was built to achieve
- A platform architecture capable of orchestrating distributed GPU workloads reliably, even as the network of hosts continues to scale
- A product that makes decentralized AI infrastructure feel accessible rather than intimidating — which is exactly the shift needed for this kind of technology to reach its potential
